Water Supply Wells

WELL DESIGN, PROJECT MANAGEMENT,
CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION AND TESTING
Jehn Water Consultants has developed an innovation approach toward
managing water well construction, observation and testing.
Construction oversight of water well construction is vital. Critical
stages of the drilling, construction, development, pump installation
and testing are supervised.
Jehn Water Consultants assigns a technical project manager to
oversee all aspects of each project to assure all projects are
completed on time and within budget and to establish and maintain
client and contractor relationships. Field staff have been trained
to recognize and resolve issues in the field. The staff are
cognizant of their abilities and can call on other trained
professionals for help if needed.

AQUIFER ANALYSES
Jehn Water Consultants has evaluated countless aquifer pumping tests
and slug tests from wells completed throughout Colorado, as well as
other areas within the United States. These analyses include
unconfined, confined, and semi-confined evaluations, in both
unconsolidated and bedrock aquifers. Jehn Water Consultants has
often been called upon to provide peer reviews of analyses of
pumping test data performed by others. Mr. Jehn has taught ground
water hydrology (a 400/500 level course) at the University of
Colorado, Denver Campus, (UCD), and has been on graduate advisory
committees for Masters Degree candidates at UCD.

PUMP/MOTOR/EVALUATIONS
For 30 years, Jehn Water Consultants personnel have designed and
supervised installation of numerous pump and motor systems in
domestic, municipal and industrial wells. In-house software programs
have been developed to evaluate aquifer conditions based on in-field
testing in order to design a system for optimum performance. In
fact, it has been the experience of Jehn Water Consultants that when
a well and pump and motor system is carefully designed and
constructed, it will last longer than the predicted average life of
such a system. Jehn Water Consultants has also performed numerous
well rehabilitation projects. In addition, Jehn Water Consultants
has had wells last up to 47% longer than average, thereby saving
valuable time and operation and maintenance costs prior to the need
for rehabilitation.

DIRECTIONAL WATER WELL DESIGN
Jehn Water Consultants is a pioneer in directional water well
drilling design. Directional wells have been used for many years in
the oil industry to increase production. Jehn Water Consultants has
taken the technology of the oil industry and applied it to the water
well industry. A directional water well can increase production of a
well up to two or three times over that of a conventional vertical
well.
Currently, Jehn Water Consultants has successfully completed one
directional water well and is currently working on completing a
second well. Innovative solutions have been designed in both the
drilling techniques and development techniques for the wells
completed in the Denver Basin aquifers.

AQUIFER STORAGE AND RECOVERY
Conjunctive use involving aquifer storage and recovery is an
important concept with an emerging technology in western states
where increasing population demands have stressed existing water
availability. Jehn Water Consultants has been in the forefront of
designing water supply systems that allow for storage of water in
aquifers along with the conjunctive use of available surface water
sources. With increased population and development in areas that
rely on ground water as a source of water, management of the ground
water resource has become an increasing concern. Jehn Water
Consultants has designed wells which allow for storage of water in
an aquifer during times when it is available and withdrawal of the
water from storage in the aquifer when needed (i.e., during drought
or to meet peak demands). Water for storage can be obtained from
renewable sources such as: surface water runoff, tributary water
from streams and treated effluent.
Flow control valves are installed into ground water wells which
allow both the pumping recharging processes to occur in the same
well with one submersible pump. The flow control valve is installed
downhole in the drop pipe string just above the submersible pump
with its check valve. The injection flow rate is controlled by
varying the degree of packer inflation in the flow control valve.

GREEN ENERGY
Jehn Water Consultants has experience using solar powered pumps/motor systems as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly approach to provide an adequate water supply. The higher cost of the pump/motor unit is often lower than installing traditional power, and the ample supply of solar radiation in Colorado means that it is both a reliable and renewable power source. The applicability of a solar powered unit to a given water system depends on the total dynamic head as well as the amount and timing of water demands. When coupled with batteries and/or storage solar powered systems can provide a reliable water supply for many applications, even when local power supplies are not available.
